The lovely and talented Renee Zawawi has pop art videos: "One Time In Italy” & "American Girl".
The videos are flashy, romantic vignettes; fantasy shots of Renee singing to a mirror and dancing with some sexy beau in big, beautiful chateaux; or for the “American Girl” video, she’s posing for cameras and dancing around in front of an American flag. The videos look as if no expense was spared in getting them filmed.
The music is pretty much representative of her milieu and so it’d be repetitive of me to go into that again, since I just reviewed her CD in the last [print] issue; but suffice it to say just in case you missed it, I think Renee Zawawi has a sweet voice, a danceable, poppy, upbeat-ness to her music and would be perfect for a set of feverish dancing at some downtown nightclub. Renee Zawawi is the most popular girl in school in real life, and she attracts lots of fan, boys, & attention.
The videos are a nice complement to the music; they add a visceral substance to the tunes. Both Renee and her music are sensual, exotic, a bit demure, but with much strength, both inside and out. She is charming and talented. She is showcasing her art & vision in "One Time In Italy" while showcasing her playful personality, sense of humor, and confident in the "American Girl" one.

Artist Note"Once up on a tune I wrote legends to share with you. Grave Concerns Ezine Review
“There is a dearth of intelligent, earnest pop music currently; Renee Zawawi "Legends: Galley Show" is just the sort of thing that could fill such a void. The album is full of haunting melodies, catchy bass lines, and thoughtful lyrics. The album seems to try and to take you all of the places which the artist has traveled, and all the places she has been emotionally: from ecstatic, to despairing, rather a whirlwind of contemporary pop. All together, it is an interesting and enjoyable album, which deserves more than one listen.” |
