Art Review
Plot: A couple; a singer dating a photographer arrive at a mansion for a photo-shoot. While he cheats on her with another model, she wonders around the mansion and finds the Statue of David Michael Angelo who melts and dances with her. The videos is flashy, romantic vignettes; fantasy shots of Renee singing and dancing with some sexy beau in big, beautiful chateaux. This short was very unique and hard to film. Renee's friend Manuel who was cast to play the statue of David was painted white!! Renee thought he was sport to have taken the role.
The music is pretty much representative of Renee's milieu and artistic personality. When I first walked into Renee's house, I smelled the fresh paints and I felt as if I was I was walking into an art studio....It was an amazing experience to visit a current artist house. I loved it.
It will be repetitive of me to describe since I have also reviewed her CD in the last [print] issue; but suffice it to say just in case you missed it, I think Renee Zawawi has a sweet voice, a dance-able, poppy, upbeat -ness to her music and would be perfect for a set of feverish dancing at some downtown Gallery or a coffee house. Renee's videos are a nice complement to the music; they add a visceral substance to the tunes. Both Renee and her music are sensual, exotic, a bit demure, but with much strength, both inside and out. She is charming and talented. She is showcasing her art & vision in "One Time In Italy" while showcasing her playful personality, sense of humor, and confident in the "Happy Hourl" one. Best to describe Renee Zawawi is a as contemporary artists with a classic edge.
